Since 1982, China Medical University has been keeping friendly relationships with 25 foreign universities respectively in U.S.,Canada,France, Japan, Russia and Korea, etc. and harmonious cooperations with foreign unofficial groups and research institutions. Till the end of May 1999, about 6000 person times scholars and experts had been visited China Medical University and more than 1800 people had been sent abroad. During this period of time , 50 odd international cooperation programs had been developed.

With the reform and opening-up policy have been adopted in our country, World Bank had aided China Medical University through the loans. And now China Medical Board and Japan International Cooperation Agency have continued subsidizing China Medical University.

China Medical University is among the schools that were first permitted by the Education Ministry in 1992 to accept students from Taiwan, HongKong and Macao. Since 1998 when we began to admit students from Taiwan till November,1999, there have been 9 students in the campus.

The students from Taiwan, HongKong and Macao are not only different from foreign students but also from the students of Mainland. In accordance with government’s policies and practical conditions , China Medical University has made special efforts to help them in study as well as in life.

General Introduction

China Medical University has accepted foreign students since 1976.
From 1976 to 1998, China Medical University has accepted 288 foreign students from 47 countries including Asia, Africa, Europe & America.
China Medical University has accepted foreign students for Master’s Degree since 1987 and has accepted foreign students for Doctorate since 1994.
Now there are 45 foreign students from 15 countries in China Medical University, they are 2 Doctoal students, 4 postgraduates, 2 advanced trainees, 7 common trainees and 30 undergraduates.

The China Medical University was the first medical school established by the Chinese Communist Party. In 1940 comrade Mao Zedong proposed, and the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party approved, the name of the school being changed to China Medical University.

The total number of registered students is now 15,107; among them are 581doctoral postgraduates, 2013 master’s students, 3899 undergraduates, 1088 for professional training. 2056 are for undergraduate and professional training by tele-education, 4935 are receiving adult education for undergraduate and professional training, and 461 are for secondary professional training. 74 are from foreign countries and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

China Medical University occupies a total land area of 1,930,000 square meters with 743,000 sq.m of building area. The library with its more than 600,000 volumes of Medical Literature and Resources.

The laboratory animal center of China Medical University is also the provincial centers of laboratory animals and their quality control, breeds 23 species and strains of experimental animals for teaching and research.

China Medical University has established good exchange and co-operation relations with 45 universities, institutes and institutions in Japan, USA, UK, France, Russia, Korea and Canada etc. 195 internationally famous scientists have been conferred honorary titles of China Medical University, 3487 teachers have been sent abroad for research or advanced training. 48 international co-operative projects have been conducted recently.

This Library of China Medical University was found in 1914.The main library is located at Lifu Hall on Taichung campus with a stock over 200,000 items. The total area is 2 11,870m and provides 1,137 seats.

China Medical University now has 18 colleges, faculties and sections, 130 departments, 34 disciplines(specialties) were authorized to grant doctor degrees and 49 were authorized to grant master degrees; 11 specialties for undergraduates and 10 specialties for higher professional techniques; one affiliated health school; a center for Japanese language training and a center for rural doctors training (both directly under the Ministry of Health); 2 national key laboratories and 3 (health) ministerial laboratories;1 national clinical study base for drug development and 1 national laboratory for research of traditional Chinese medicines; 3 post-doctoral mobile stations; 10 provincial key disciplines, 8 provincial research and treatment centers, 3 municipal research centers; 21educational and research institutes or centers, 8 central laboratories of the university or its colleges; 15 independent research laboratories; 3 companies of science and technology. There are 2856 beds in China Medical University’s 3 affiliated comprehensive hospitals and one specialty hospital.
