Founded in 1950, Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) is located in the beautiful costal city of Qingdao known as the “ Eastern Switzerland”, it was formerly known as Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology.

Qingdao University is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university offering academic degrees in Engineering, Science, Business, Management, Humanities, Medicine, Law.
Qingdao University has two campuses, the Sifang Campus and the East Campus, covering 1638 mu with school buildings of 410,000 square meters.
Qingdao University has a staff totaling1503, with 467 of them holding professorship, and 16 of them are PhD tutors. At present the student number of Qingdao University is 17,480, and 750 of them are postgraduates. There are 16 colleges, 62 research offices, 15 research centers, 14 Master’s degree majors, 37 Bachelor’s degree majors, 5 higher vocational majors. Qingdao University has three provincial key majors; three provincial key labs; five provincial engineering technology research centers; three municipal key labs; one municipal new material industrial park, four municipal engineering technology research centers; one most important provincial key major; two most important provincial key labs, among others.
Qingdao University has been one of the leading universities in Shandong Province not only in the conducting but also in the evaluation and appraisal of scientific research. During the last decade, Qingdao University has carried out 592 research projects, one of them is an international cooperation project, 70 of them were state projects. 218 research achievements have gone through appraisals and 106 of them have been above the advanced international level. It has been awarded 187 scientific research achievement prizes (13 are State Technical Invention Prizes and State Science and Technology Progress Prizes). According to the ranking parade about the situation of gaining 3 State Technical Achievement Prizes among the state general universities conducted by the Central Educational Institute for the period of 1997 to 1999, Qingdao University ranks 5th for State Technical Invention Prize, and 74th for State Science and Technology Progress Prizes. And it ranks 67th according to “The List of Universities of the Patent Application Figure”(1985-2000) issued by the Technical Developing Center of Education Ministry. Qingdao University has published scientific papers of over 7,000 in both domestic and international journals. Between 1998 and 2001, the papers of Qingdao University included in SCI and EI ranks 132, 101, 103, 105 (SCI) and 84, 79, 98, 86 (EI) among all state universities in China.
Qingdao University develops rapidly in co-operation and exchange with other institutes. It has established six boards with 300 enterprises from home and abroad. Also, it has already established Sister University relationship with institutions of higher learning in many countries like Russia, Germany, Korea, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, and USA. The Sino-Germany Technical College co-established by Paderborn University (Germany) and Qingdao University is considered as a model in both China and Germany. The 2+2 program between Qingdao University and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (Canada) is warmly welcomed by the society.
There are more and more foreign students studying in Qingdao University. They are from Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, Russia, Vietnam, etc. Qingdao University has been inviting foreign scholars, and sending excellent teachers and students to study abroad.
